The latest from Jenni Dobbin – Director of Field Operations

Jenni DobbinSchool holidays are over, and hundreds of kids who had a great time on an SU QLD camp or KidsGames event have returned safely home. As well as all these camp events, SU QLD trained 25 new chaplains at New Chaplains Induction and we also trained chaplains in our new A2B group work program – in Cairns, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Brisbane – which is now being used in many schools, especially for at-risk students.

Last week we sent your chaplain information regarding the new Chaplain Development Plan (CDP). The CDP replaces the annual review. After concerns from principals about the length of last year’s annual review, we have simplified this year’s questions and your FDM (Field Development Manager) will be asking key stakeholders, including School Principals and LCC Chairs, for responses regarding what has gone well and what areas need developing for your chaplain. Chaplains who started this year will be involved in the normal Probation Review, and won’t be required to complete a CDP for 2016. Chaplains have been sent instructions on filling in their CDP on their smartphone or computer. The CDP is important because feedback to your chaplain provides an opportunity for development and growth, which in turn enhances performance and achievement. We appreciate you taking part in the CDP, when contacted by your FDM.

Our annual SU QLD Staff Conference in August (1st-4th) will provide many valuable PD opportunities for chaplains. We are pleased to have Steve Biddulph – one of the world’s best known parent educators – as one of our guest presenters. A psychologist for 25 years, he is now retired, but continues to write and teach. His session on raising boys (and girls) based on his world acclaimed books will be inspirational. We also look forward to sharing many other teaching opportunities with the chaplains and will have a resource expo to help them find the latest programs and resources for working with children.

Currently we are experiencing a challenge regarding identifying some deposits made direct to the SU QLD main bank account. We believe some of these are from donors and some are from LCCs. When depositing funds, please remember to use your pre-printed LCC deposit book, and send us an email to advise us of the deposit to ensure it is allocated correctly.

Please email us at donations@suqld.org.au, if you made a deposit without a deposit book recently (please include date, amount and purpose in your email).

If you don’t have a deposit book and need to order one, or have any other questions, email support@suqld.org.au.

This month, we also want to clear up some issues around GST. If you are organising a chaplaincy fundraiser, you need to know when GST is required. GST is payable on, and in effect included in, the full amount of a ticket price to a dinner or similar function conducted by the non-profit organisation. When a person attends the dinner they are receiving a material benefit (the dinner), in exchange for the purchase price of the ticket.  A GST and Fundraising Summary has been added to the resources section of Chaplaincy Resources to assist LCC’s, or call us on 3112 6470 with any questions.

Thanks for all your support of your chaplaincy service. Invoices for Term 3 NSCP grant payments were emailed to schools this week.

We look forward to continuing to support you in all aspects of your school chaplaincy!
