Supporters in the Spotlight – End of Year

As we know, chaplains cannot operate without local support. The Chaplaincy Service thrives when there is continuous support from sponsors, supporters and volunteers – the cheer squad throughout the year. The achievement of each Chaplaincy Service belongs to these people.

The end of the year provides a great opportunity for you to thank them.IMG_9516_Toowoomba

“The value in saying thank you to supporters is massive,” says Jeff Howard, (acting) Brisbane Area Manager. “End-of-year events give chaplains a chance to share what they have been doing and their vision. The networking value is priceless.”

“The past year-end events have been appreciated. People love being thanked and enjoy the chance to hear stories about what the chaplain has done. It builds community, makes people feel appreciated and showcases the Chaplaincy Service all at once,” says Jeff.

There are so many different ways to thank supporters – for example, Mount Samson State School’s chaplain, Rosie Thomas, is holding a Coffee and Dessert Night.

“I am a bit of a novice as this is my first year for this one,” says Rosie.

The night will be bursting with cake, coffee, trivia and live music to give ambience to the event.“I invited sponsors, supporters and volunteers, as well as anyone who has shown a special interest in chaplaincy over the year,” she says.

Importantly, Chaplain Rosie will be giving an update on the exciting year as well as looking towards 2015.

“Along with my heart-felt thanks, I will talk about what my specific Chaplaincy Service has achieved and experienced this year. My principal will also give an address on the impact of the Chaplaincy Service in the school.

“It’s an informal night to celebrate. Not another fundraiser, but a chance to bless those who bless me. It’s a stretch for me, but I wanted a way to give back and honour my support network,” Rosie concludes.

The Local Chaplaincy Committee covers the costs involved. They either pay for the food – whether it’s buying the food or paying per head at a café, or they cook their own.

Be encouraged to take up this opportunity to build your community networks and build your Local Chaplaincy Committee.
