Stats tell the story – chaplaincy’s impact in Australia

Following 2017’s Queensland-centric School Chaplaincy Snapshot, McCrindle have released a snapshot for the National School Chaplaincy Program. The report crunches the numbers on the impact chaplains are having in schools each week, term and year. Here are a few notable statistics we thought you might find interesting.

  • There are currently 1,562 chaplains working in 1,929 schools across Australia.
  • Every week, chaplains have 28,264 informal conversations with students, and an additional 17,867 informal conversations with parents/carers and school staff. On top of this, chaplains have 13,461 formal conversations with students.
  • 77% of chaplains exceed the minimum qualification level (Cert. IV) across Youth Work, Social Science, Education, Ministry/Theology and other disciplines.
  • Each term chaplains run 43,262 program sessions, supporting more than 314,000 students.
  • Chaplains are involved in more than 3,626 extra-curricular school activities each week.
