The latest from Jenni Dobbin – Director of Field Operations

Jenni DThanks for doing your part in responding to the Chaplain’s Development Planning (CDP) questions regarding your school chaplain. The CDP was very successful in term 3. Principals and LCC Chairs appreciated the new streamlined approach with less questions and more space to make comments. It has been very encouraging to receive the positive feedback on the majority of our staff.

The feedback provided is taken into consideration when reviewing chaplain salary band changes. As notified in the Salary Band Policy released in January 2016, Salary Band movements are considered for all chaplains once each year only. Approved increases take effect from week zero of 2017. Band A chaplains, who are completing the relevant minimum qualifications, need to email support@suqld.org.au to let us know they will be eligible for a salary increase. Proof of qualifications will need to be provided to Field Support to be eligible for a salary band increase.

Band B chaplains moving to Band C need to have at least two calendar years’ experience as a Chaplain with SU QLD; and have successfully completed the last two SU QLD performance reviews and maintained workplace standards to SU QLD’s satisfaction. To progress from Band C to Band D, a chaplain needs at least five calendar years’ experience as a Chaplain with SU QLD; and at least one calendar years’ experience at Band C; as well as successfully completing the last two SU QLD performance reviews and maintained workplace standards to SU QLD’s satisfaction.

We are currently working through the CDP reports, and length of service of all chaplains, and will email LCCs soon to alert you to any salary band changes for your chaplain, applicable from 2017.

Experienced chaplain salary band changes are considered once each year – only in term 4. (This is so SU QLD can provide schools with the correct Purchase Order information in January each year.) LCCs with chaplains on Band D have the discretionary option to apply for an increase to Band E – or E1 to E2, and E2 to E3. Applications are received via the Experienced Salary Application Form, available on the OurChaplaincy Dashboard, under Chaplaincy Forms and Policies. LCCs wishing to increase their chaplain with 6 years or greater experience need to apply NOW. You can access the form, and full salary band policy, here: g.suqld.org.au/2eDYpMU

Last year, the Department of Education and Training (DET) introduced a Chaplain Workplan which needs to be completed annually, by the end of February. To fit in with DET policies, we are no longer requiring chaplains to fill in our Annual Operational Plan because it repeats a lot of the information needed for the DET Workplan. Chaplains will need to liaise with their LCC regarding their DET Workplan, which is signed off by both the Principal and P&C Chair.

A reminder regarding LCC monthly financial reports, namely that these reports are provisional until they are finalised each month. The SU QLD Finance Department will email LCCs by the 10th working day of every month to let you know your reports are finalised.

Our SU QLD survey – ‘Reaching Forward’ – sent in the last weeks of term 3 to Principals and LCC Chairs has produced a favourable response and we will be discussing this, and service fee costs for 2017, at our term 4 LCC Forums. Watch out for the invites to the Forums which will be sent by your Field Development Manager. We look forward to meeting with you!
