From the CEO – Term 3, 2022

Thank you for your faithful support for your chaplains this year – your support, though often behind-the-scenes, is greatly appreciated, and without it chaplaincy would simply not be the success story it is today.

It’s been a busy few months here at SU Australia; hosting our first National Schools Ministry Workers Conference, and finishing up our largest fundraising campaign for the year, while your chaplains have continued to show up with eagerness and willingness to be a blessing to the communities in which they serve.

You will have read in Jenni’s update, that the SU Australia Board has approved increasing the base pay of chaplains all across Australia by 4.6% from July to reflect underlying cost of living pressures. We are also increasing all chaplains’ superannuation by 0.5% where required by law.

Your chaplains work so hard to bring support to our young people and school communities. It is our sincere hope that these increases will come as a blessing to these amazing people who give so much of themselves to support others in need.

We are also grateful for the Department of Education’s wish to extend the provision of Chaplaincy and/or Student Welfare Worker and/or Youth Support Coordinator roles in QLD’s State Schools through to the end of 2024. This news is encouraging and a testament to the valued service your chaplains provide in schools.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to provide support and care to the young people and families in our communities.

Peter James
